Mythologia Summer 2023 inspiration

The new collection of Mythologia sandals is an inspiration trip to the Greek island of Lemnos.

Summer 2023 is so close. The sunny days and the wait for a new voayage to Greece and a brand new experience of the country lead the creative vision of Mythologia Chief Creative and Founder, Eva Karamveris, to Lemnos. The encounter, images and stories of Lemnos inspired the Mythologia 2023 collection.

The island

Lemnos is a rather off the beaten track destination. It is located on the east coastal border of Greece and its distance from the major cities of the mainland render it less accessible than the popular islands. Contrary to the much photographed Cyclades, its charm is a story that spreads among Greeks by word of mouth. Lemnos has been inhabited for more than three millennia though, and is the backdrop of myths and legends. Just one look at its enchanting scenery is enough to perceive why it was associated with epic stories about ancient gods. 

Fascinating landscapes

Lemnos is an island like no other. It’s main attractions are Amothines, Falakro or Falakra and Hortarolimni. Amothines is a desert-like landscape right by the sea, with golden-brown sand hills next to the deep blue sea. The wind ghasts of August shape and reshape the hills creating a new landscape each day. Falakra are rock formations that came about when lava from the ancient volcano of the island met the sea. The locals thought that their orb shape looked like little bald heads, hence their name. On the east coastal front of the island there’s the complex of a lagoon, Alyki, a moor, Hortarolimni, and a small lake, Asprolimni. After a drought the lagoon and the moor form a salt desert right next to the sea that is definitely worth a visit.

Mythologia new collection

These charming landscapes were formed from the island’s ancient volcano. That ancient volcano was the reason that ancient Greeks placed god Hephestus’ home at Lemnos. Hephestus (Vulcan) was the god of fire, deserts and forge. He was also the smith, the master metal worker who constructed the thrones and weapons of gods, jewelry for goddesses on the Olympus and even Achilles’ shield. The myth of a god who was a master craftsman and created beautiful, authentic works from precious metals inspired the Mythologia 2023 collection of leather sandals. The minimal lines of Mythologia are in tune with the island’s stark grace.

The first look

Beautiful metal dyes and metallic details are a prevailing theme of this year’s collection. The Agapi sandal in metallic rose and the Petra slide in metallic pink are prime examples. Get a sneak preview here. The full collection and look book will be available shortly.
